Rethinking “Money”: Is It Still Just Currency or Something Deeper?
The Hidden Baggage of the Word “Money”
The word money instantly triggers emotions—often conflicting ones.
“Money is the root of all evil.”
“Money doesn’t buy happiness.”
“Chase the money.”
“Save every penny.”
Here’s the baggage we carry:
- Moral weight: Money is often labeled “good” or “bad,” instead of neutral.
- Shame & scarcity: Many feel guilt for not having enough—or for wanting more.
- Inherited beliefs: We internalize what we heard growing up—“We can’t afford that,” “Rich people are greedy,” “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
- Fear-based narratives: Money becomes a source of anxiety, not empowerment.
This baggage creates two extremes:
- Some hoard money, afraid to lose it.
- Others push it away, feeling unworthy or suspicious of it.
Neither creates freedom.
A Reframe: Money as Energy, Flow, and Intentional Tool
Ken Honda’s idea of “Happy Money” reminds us:
Money carries the energy you give it.
- Money received with gratitude feels light.
- Money earned with resentment feels heavy.
- Money spent with joy circulates abundance.
Joe Vitale’s “Money Loves Speed” adds another layer:
Money moves toward action. When you act quickly on aligned ideas, you open the flow. When you hesitate endlessly, you stall it.
Put together, we get a reframe:
“Money isn’t paper, plastic, or numbers on a screen.
Money is a current—it flows where there’s clarity, action, and appreciation.”
Money is not a master.
It’s not a villain.
It’s not even a goal.
- It’s a tool for exchange and a mirror for mindset.
The TRP Take
At The Revamp Project, we see money not as the definition of wealth but as one expression of it.
You may not control every financial system.
You can’t rewrite the economy.
But you can rewrite your relationship with money.
So here’s a possible reframe:
“Money is not the root of all evil.
Money is the root of possibility.”
It’s happy when it’s earned ethically, shared freely, and spent with joy.
It’s stuck when it’s feared, hoarded, or chased without meaning.
And one more truth:
“Money responds to movement.
When you act with integrity and speed, it finds you faster.”
Reflection Prompts
Use these prompts to explore your money mindset:
- What’s the first memory I have about money—and what belief did it plant?
- Does money feel heavy or light in my life right now? Why?
- How do I feel when I spend money? Grateful? Guilty? Fearful?
- Where can I let money flow faster—through decisive action, generosity, or trust?
- How can I create “Happy Money”—money that smiles when it enters and leaves my life?
Want to Go Deeper?
Money becomes easier to earn, keep, and circulate when we stop making it an enemy and start making it a partner.
