Rethinking “Success” – Is It Still About Status, Money, and Approval?

The Hidden Baggage of the Word “Success”

“Success” is a word we’re taught to chase from the moment we’re old enough to receive a gold star.

“She’s successful.”

“He finally made it.”

“This is the secret to success.”

But what does it actually mean?

For many, “success” comes with heavy emotional weight:

  • Performance pressure: Always needing to prove yourself

  • Cultural default = money, status, followers

  • External validation: Success often hinges on how others view you
  • Linear timeline: Success happens “by a certain age,” or not at all

Worse, “success” often hides a deeper message:

“You are only worthy if you achieve what others expect from you.”

That’s not success. That’s submission dressed up as ambition.

A Reframe: Success as Fulfillment, Not Comparison

What if success wasn’t a trophy?

What if it wasn’t measured by bank accounts, job titles, or applause?

What if it simply meant

“Living in alignment with your values—and evolving toward your highest expression.”

In this light, success becomes

  • Purpose-driven, not praise-driven

  • Measured internally, not externally
  • A journey, not a destination
  • Peaceful, not performative

Success is not a result—it’s a relationship with your own becoming.

The TRP Take

At The Revamp Project, we define success not by what the world claps for but by what your soul recognizes.

You may not own the metrics others use.

You may not even want them.

But you can define your own version of thriving—and walk toward it every day.

So here’s a possible reframe:

“Success isn’t what makes you impressive.

It’s what makes you alive.”

You don’t need a podium.

You need permission from yourself.

Reflection Prompts

Use these to rewire your definition of success:

  1. Whose definition of success have I been chasing?

  2. What does a successful day feel like, not look like?
  3. What parts of my life already feel like success?
  4. If no one could see or measure my achievements, what would I still choose to do?
  5. How can I make success feel more like a journey rather than a destination?
